1972 Bowen 3 Blade THE GENERAL COMMEMORATIVE Knife Orig. Paperwork+Box

This is a nice, over half a century old, Bowen 3 blade folding knife. Serial number 434. The knife is named after and intended to commemorate the locomotive, THE GENERAL, that was captured by Union troops and eventually rescued near Chattanooga, Tennessee. The train survived The Battle of Atlanta and served during the rest of the Civil War. The serial number appears on the front right bolster of the large/main blade. Front side of the large blade is marked “THE GENERAL” with a detailed picture of the steam locomotive. The length of the main blade is 2 1/2”. The reverse of this blade reads “A Bowen Knife, Atlanta, USA.” The tang stamp reads “1972 U.S.A.” Length of the secondary blade is 1 3/4”. The third blade measures slightly short of 1 3/4”. The length of the closed knife is 3 1/4”. All blades are in excellent to mint condition and appear never to have been used. The blades are tight with excellent snap. This folding knife features nickel silver bolsters with brass pins and liners. The handle scales are rosewood. In 1972, Bowen made exactly 2,000 of these knives. Includes original paperwork and lidded box with a side label, indicating Bowen’s address and serial number. Box is in excellent condition. Paperwork, which outlines the history of THE GENERAL, has a slight tan mark consistent with age. The knife is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or scuffs.
