Description:

Available for your brooder or incubator are one of my favorite birds to raise: Coturnix Quail. Coturnix Quail are fast growing and mature in 8 weeks; the hens are terrific layers of approximately 300 eggs a year. Temperament is very important to us, all our birds are friendly and easy to handle; we do not keep any birds that show aggression or scalping tendencies toward their flock mates, maintaining a relaxed and quiet covey environment. The hens lay prolific quantities of blue, brown, speckled, and splattered eggs, and the cockerels can be processed at 10 weeks. Our covey is a community flock of mixed color assortments from Thieving Otter Farms standard, rare, and project color lines. Our varieties include, but are not limited to: Common colors: Pharaoh, Italian, Manchurian, Rosetta, Tibetan, Jumbo Brown Fee: Falb Fee, Grau Fee, Pearl Fee, Sparkly Fee, Calico Fee, Egyptian Fee Blue: Blue EB Andalusian: Fawn Andalusian Roux: Scarlett, Sparkly Roux, Range Tuxedo, Egyptian Sparkly: Sparkly, Sparkly Fawn, Sparkly Fee, Roux Sparkly White: English White, White Wing Pied Pansy: Jumbo Pansy, Roux Pansy Calico: Calico, Calico Fee, Roux Calico Fee They are happy, robust, and housed in a clean aviary environment. We offer them a complete diet supplemented with generous quantities of garden greens, plus ACV and a liquid vitamin supplement once monthly. We keep a ratio of one male to four or five females; fertility is excellent. Biosecurity is strictly maintained with our birds; we do not have visitors to the farm. All pictures are of our stock. We aim to improve our stock each generation, breeding toward type, temperament, productivity, and unique color patterns of these fabulous birds. HATCHING EGGS: We collect hatching eggs from stock 12 weeks of age and older. Eggs are collected three times daily. Your eggs will be fresh, clean, washed (see more information on properly washing hatching eggs in Deer Run Farm's article: deerrunfarmmd.com/blogs/the-egg-ucated-chicken/washing-hatching-eggs), and weigh between 13-15 grams. They are stored in a cool location and rotated twice daily until pickup. CHICKS: Chicks are sold straight run (meaning each individual chick has a 50/50 chance of being male or female). Our chick minimum is four chicks, as they are social creatures and grow best in a community brooding environment. We're happy to include an extra chick if available! • We take orders for chicks with a deposit of $1 per chick. This reserves the number of chicks you would like to order, and is non-refundable unless unforeseen circumstances prevent us from filling your order (e.g. hens stop laying due to molting, etc.). The remainder of your balance is due at the time of pickup. • Quail eggs take approximately 3 weeks to collect and incubate. When you place an order for chicks, we're happy to accommodate a general timeline for you to pick up your order, provided it’s within a one week margin of the planned hatch date. This allows the chicks to rest after hatching and sets them up for greatest chances of success in their new homes. • If you're unable to pickup your chicks within one week of hatching, please reach out to schedule your pickup. Chicks not picked up within a week of hatch with no rescheduling notice will be sold to other customers in our waitlist. • We only sell robust chicks, hatched from large eggs, and they will be given a liquid vitamin supplement and 26% protein starter until pick up. • Chick pickup boxes are provided for transporting your chicks home, and we happily include a printout with tips for brooding your new chicks. Hatching eggs are $1.50 per egg, or $15 per Dozen. Chicks are $3 each, with an order minimum of four chicks. Cash payment and local pickup.
