Was owned and played by James Blanton in the Chuckwagon Supper Shows in Colorado and New Mexico for decades! His family is wanting someone that will play it and appreciate it to have it now since he has passed away. Bill Brooks has also performed with this fiddle. Bill played with the Flying X Ranch Hands. Please no texts due scammers. Thanks. Brief History of James Blanton: James Blanton was a WWII veteran. He fought in General Patton’s army. He was a disabled veteran losing a leg, partial eyesight and hearing, but was on stage every night, many never knowing he had a wooden leg. He played music, fiddle, base fiddle, and guitar after the war for some western swing bands, before entering the chuckwagon supper shows. Garden of The Gods for JC Chuckwagon Supper Show in Colorado Springs, CO. Owned by The Junior Chamber of Commerce. This was the very first ever Chuckwagon Supper Show. He played there about 1 year. Other members were Tom Justin (McClosky), who founded the Lazy B Guest Ranch Chuckwagon in Estes Park, CO., Clyde Casey, and Bob Minson. The Flying W Chuckwagon in Colorado Springs, CO. He played there 5 or 6 years. Other members were James Blanton, Cy Scarborough, Buck Teeter, Chuck Camp, and George Jackson. The Bar D Chuckwagon Supper Show in Durango, CO. He played there 7 years, and was a one-third owner. Other members were Jim Blanton, Little Jim Blanton, Cy Scarborough, and Buck Teeter. The Flying X Chuckwagon Supper Show in Carlsbad, NM. He played there 4 years, and was the owner, before his passing. Other members were James Blanton, JD Blanton, Floyd Luker, Hugh Farr (fiddle player for The Sons of the Pioneers for 28 years), Bill Brooks, Ron Grimes, and Baldy Rambo. Walter Winchell, a New York City news reporter and journalist, who had the top-rated radio show when he surpassed Fred Allen and Jack Benny. He interviewed Leopold Stokowski the famous orchestra conductor, and asked him who was the best natural violinist in the world, and he said Hugh Farr! Leopold Stokowski was once asked who his favorite violinist was. He said, “I’d take the left hand from Jascha Heifitz and the right arm from that guy that plays for the Sons of the Pioneers.” That guy, Hugh Farr, could not read a note of music. Corollary: is it necessary to have a sensitive ear to play violin. Thomas Hubert “Hugh” Farr played fiddle for 28 years for the Sons of the Pioneers, as well as being in 168 movies with Roy Rogers. He was the fiddle player for the Flying X Chuckwagon! He was brilliant and fast and would “attack” a song. What an honor to have played alongside of him! Hugh Farr was inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in 1995.
