Description:

This battered Reynolds 501 steel Peugeot frameset has two major issues but is not a lost cause. Two major issues: First, the otherwise very nice chrome fork needs its blades cold set (bent) forward. They are obviously the victim of a front end collision. Second, study the images. Backstory: the frame, with its fastback seat stays going right up to the very rim of the seat tube, was not made to clamp a seatpost in the conventional mode. Instead, it requires a quill seatpost with the same kind of wedge nut as stems of the era used. BUT WAIT! Some barbarian, to address this in pure low-life fashion, drilled a hole right through the seat tube (and a seatpost which is no longer with us thank you lord). AND YET....my colleagues and I agree, there is enough residual strength in the fine tubing that if a correct seatpost of sufficient length (meaning: going well past the hole with plain shaft) were used, the bike could be ridden without fear of failure (another way might be the skilled brazing-on of a patch patch of some kind). SO...that's the story. Also included: a quill type stem BUT missing its wedge nut and bolt, and a complete bottom bracket in need of overhaul. Ten dollars saves this frameset from the landfill!
