2004 VW Jetta (Best Beater I Ever Owned) - 225K Miles

I’ll say this: The Germans know how to build a car. I bought this vehicle from one of my buddies (original owner) 55K miles ago, and she’s run like a champ ever since. Haven’t had to do much but oil, tires, and brakes. The headlights burned out, so I rewired them in parallel directly to the battery and haven’t had any problems since. Idle’s rough, but runs great. I drove out from Virginia last week (~2500 miles) and didn’t have the slightest issue. Cosmetically, the car’s beat to shit. But let’s be honest, you’re buying a beater. Anything in this price range is going to have some issues. And the issues on this vehicle are almost entirely cosmetic. Some meth heads smashed a section of the rear driver's side window in Fort Worth. The passenger side mirror (glass) is missing (not sure what happened there). The seats have some milage on them. But the car’s fun to drive and it’s got the coolest god damn stick shift in the world. The check engine light has been on since I bought it. Took it to Autozone and slapped a computer on there. Apparently it’s some temperature sensor (~$20). But I never fixed it. The speedometer doesn’t work. Gotta pump the gas a little bit to get her started and the dashboard is lit up like a Christmas tree. But she runs. And she runs good. I’d drive this car into the ground if I could, but I got a deal on an old Subaru Forester that I couldn’t pass up, so she’s just sitting in the driveway.
