Description:

This is a 2019 United Trailer 5x8 cargo trailer that I purchased brand new and built out into a square drop style cargo trailer camper. If you're unfamiliar with that, it's basically a teardrop camper that is square instead of teardrop shaped. I built this and have camped every year from spring - autumn with it. I did a lot of research on teardrop and square drop campers prior to building this. In the end I decided I could build something with quality components for way less than something comparable. I'm a contractor and my brother is a NGA certified auto glass installer who has done a lot of work on RVs. He assisted with the installation of the doors and the roof vent to make sure they were properly installed with urethane and sealed watertight. My wife and I love it and are only selling it because I'm building a bigger one to take our collie with us. The new camper is just about done and I don't need two campers! I've included a variety of pictures of the trailer in various settings so you can see how I use it. This type of camper works really well for a certain type of camping - camping in state and national parks with full facilities. The camper has no toilet, shower or water/sink. We like to stay in campgrounds with shower and restroom facilities and cook at a picnic table under a canopy and just use the camper for sleeping and food storage. We just pull into our campsite, unhook and level it, plug it in and sometimes put a canopy partly over it. It fits perfectly under a 12x12 canopy and is really nice to deploy! We only generally use the big canopy when we're setting up for a week or so at a time. There is also a Slumberjack Roadhouse tarp that can be deployed off either side or the back. Showering and cooking in a camper is its own hassle, especially when it's time to winterize. With this camper there's nothing to drain or refill. At the end of the season just put it away and you're done. The condition is excellent and there are no leaks and have never been. It sleeps two comfortably from nights in the 20's to days in the 90's. There is no AC but it's honestly not needed. When you get in, lay down and open the windows in the doors and turn on the fan it creates such a cross breeze that we've never run the ceiling vent at a higher speed than low because it gets very cool! I built this over the winter of 2019. It's been garage kept and carefully maintained. For example, washed after each trip and hubs greased each autumn after the camping season is over. The axle has Dexter easy lube hubs and it's very easy to service. All the marker and tail lights on the trailer work and are LED. I have a build log of photos of the entire process so you can see how it's built. The underside has been undercoated. The walls and ceiling are insulated. It has a carpeted queen sized sleeping area with double entry doors (teardrop doors from Challenger Door in Indiana, one on each side) and a galley in the back. There is storage underneath on both sides in the sleeping area. There are storage cabinets in the sleeping compartment at the head and foot of the bed. There is a shelf at the head of the bed with storage underneath. There are AC and DC outlets at the head of the bed, a fan in the ceiling and LED lights throughout. The galley in the back has multiple shelves above a counter with room below. There are LED lights in the back plus color changing LED lights with a remote control. You can easily fit all the food and supplies you need for a week's camping trip for two in the galley. There is deep storage in the back extending from the galley halfway under the sleeping platform. On one side is a 100 amp house battery and full-sized spare tire. There is room for a large Coleman Max Cold cooler in front of that. On the other side, the storage compartment will hold longer things like camp chairs, bundles of firewood, etc. The camper has a standard 30 amp shore power plug to a Progressive Dynamics Intelli-Power 4100 series converter. It has an AC and DC side and charges and maintains the house battery. We have camped in the mountains in Shenandoah National Park with it where there is no shore power. It will easily go four days on the house battery running the ceiling fan all night each night, charging our phones each night and using lights as much as we want. I can recharge the house battery in the middle of the week one time with a tiny generator and it works fine. The camper hauls very easily. I pull it with a Highlander through the mountains with no problem. Feel free to ask any questions or if you'd like to see the build log.
